Series Summary

"Marianne" is a French horror television series that premiered on Netflix in 2019. The show follows the story of a young novelist named Emma who returns to her hometown of Elden, after learning that the fictional witch she has been writing about in her books is real.

Emma discovers that the witch, Marianne, is responsible for a string of deaths in the town and must confront her to save the people she loves. The series is full of supernatural elements and horror tropes, including possession, hauntings, and dark magic.

The show stars Victoire Du Bois as Emma, as well as Lucie Boujenah, Tiphaine Daviot, and Ralph Amoussou. "Marianne" has been praised for its intense scares, atmospheric tension, and strong performances, particularly from Du Bois, who delivers a standout performance as Emma.

The series was created by Samuel Bodin and produced by Netflix and Quaestio Films. The first season consists of eight episodes, each running approximately 45 minutes long. Despite its popularity and critical acclaim, Netflix announced in January 2020 that it would not be renewing the series for a second season.
